South Australian Government looks at single use plastics

24 January, 2019

As a proud South Australian, family owned company specialising in sustainable paper and board packaging, the Detmold Group support the SA Government’s push to ban single-use plastic products.

SA Environment Minister David Speirs is inviting industry and the community to provide feedback on a discussion paper investigating how to tackle the environmental impacts of single-use plastic items.

Detmold Group Marketing and Innovation Manager Tom Lunn said the release of the discussion paper was a great initiative by the state government.

“We know there are significant impacts on the environment associated with single-use plastics in packaging,” Tom said.

“Concerns over the threat to our marine life and natural environment are well founded, but there are sustainable solutions available.

“We’re pleased South Australia is once again leading the discussion in making meaningful environmental change and we encourage other businesses to join us in responding to the proposal to ban single-use plastic products.

“We’re pleased to be leading the industry in sustainable solutions, recognised by the Australian Packaging Covenant with the Excellence in Sustainable Packaging Award.

“We offer a range of recyclable or compostable packaging to give our customers a broad range of sustainable options.

“We have developed our revolutionary RecycleMe™ cup, an innovative new product that ensures collected cups will live again as paper products, and we continue to assist brands in making the move to paper bags and eliminating unnecessary plastic from other packaging items.

“Already we’re speaking to our customers about the best way to meet Australia’s commitment to the Toward 2025 initiative, which will legislate that all packaging be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.

“We’re pleased to offer a comprehensive range of packaging products, including our recyclable takeaway cup,” Tom said.
