Loreto College launches Cut the Rubbish Campaign

February 5, 2020

Students of South Australia’s Loreto College will aim to significantly reduce waste sent to landfill at their school thanks to the launch of the Cut the Rubbish Campaign.

The campaign takes a holistic approach to waste management, considering the school’s facilities and access to bins, education for students about responsible disposal of waste, and sustainable packaging alternatives provided for their school tuck shop and boarding house.

Environmental organisation KESAB (Keep South Australia Beautiful) will lead education sessions across all year levels at the college to inform students about responsible disposal of waste.

Providing sustainable packaging for the school, Detpak representatives Zoe Detmold and Sarah Gray were involved in a launch at the school introducing concepts such as a circular economy and the waste management hierarchy.

Loreto College is involved in other sustainability initiatives, such as the installation of solar panels at their school and restoration of the creek bed in their Acacias Garden.

A leading South Australian school in a sustainability space, the Cut the Rubbish Campaign will be rolled out with leadership from a core group of students who will facilitate behaviour change and environmental impacts of their peers.

With the project occurring over the next ten weeks, the campaign provides an opportunity for students to learn over the school term and check in on their efforts through waste audits.
