The Australian Circular Economy Hub Launch
November 24, 2020
Today Environment Minister Hon Sussan Ley officially launched Planet Ark’s Australian Circular Economy Hub (ACE Hub).
The launch took place from the Yallamundi Rooms in the Sydney Opera House and was livestreamed for guests unable to attend due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The ACE Hub aims to accelerate Australia’s transition toward a circular economy, acting as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for circular economy inspiration, learning, and implementation within Australia. The four major pillars which will guide the program’s activities are:
- Inspire and amplify to drive awareness of the circular economy
- Educate and connect through the online platform which will showcase case studies, news and a curated knowledge hub
- Enable action through high impact national programs focused on a marketplace for the use of secondary materials, metrics, procurement, education, priority areas and product stewardship.
- Support and promote change by identifying barriers and create enabling conditions to overcome them.
The ACE Hub highlights the importance of knowledge sharing, and offers a platform for users to share information, experiences, inspiration and successes as Australia work towards a fundamental transition to a circular economy.
The ACE Hub is accessible to all Australians, and will be regularly updated with the most current and comprehensive information available.
The circular economy is an innovative model that promotes sustainability, reduction of emissions and efficient use of resources. The three key principles underpinning a circular economy are:
- Design out waste and pollution
- Keep products and materials in use
- Regenerate natural systems
Implementing a circular economy model will create new job opportunities, reduce costs on raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce waste resources going to land, and ultimately, preserve our Earth.
As highlighted in today’s launch, maintaining our current linear economy will mean we will require three Earths by 2025, making the transition more critical than ever.
With 88% of business leaders believing that a circular economy will be important to the future of their company, already Detpak recognises the significance of the move to circular packaging options.
At Detpak, we are helping our community transition to a circular economy through our product design principles, the materials we use and the way our products are manufactured. We encourage our customers to switch to sustainable packaging alternatives to promote this model.
